Artist's Comments

another monster huge tutorial... but I've got screen shots and illustrations so hopefully it won't be too much information overload!

The body hair brush I made can be downloaded from here:

I'm not much of a writer or a graphic designer, so I'm always open for suggestions when it comes to making tutorials. Feel free to let me know if you found this useful/totally incomprehensible/whatever.

edit 12/18/08: Wow, thanks for the DD on this! Texture detailing is just a little thing, but I love doing it, so I'm happy to share what I've learned with you all :)

The effects of digitally painting skin can sometimes leave your image looking flat and lifeless adding detail to skin - PS by ~ceruleanvii is a fabulous tutorial that will guide you in several simple techniques on how to create depth and structure for a realistic skin surface. Hmm, I think your'e the first artist I have watched that actually includes body hair :XD: I admit I'm not crazy about body hair myself (ugh, I've got one of those horrid snail-trails ) and generall like the smooth, "plastic: looking skin, but that only works on fictional characters from games...When it comes to realistic figures, it sure makes a difference :wow:

Oh, I never would have thought of using green to add to the "midtones" colour of the skin...thats interesting :O

This is an amazing well made tutorial! I admire your artwork and style so getting an inside look on its mechanics is just too much!

Texture and general blending and forming shape are really hard tricks for me, I really want to make the leap into realistic art. Thanks for the help!
