just needed to take a break from all the frustrating paintings I'm working on that seem to be going nowhere and zone out and paint some skin. Painting skin is like comfort food to me, a big old plate of mac n cheese :)

But what I really liked about this image (besides the obvious) is the great angle the photographer shot it from. I've been searching everywhere for decent figure drawing refs that have some dramatic perspective. Most of them are shot straight on. The only place I've found with hi/lo angles is 3D.sk but you need a premium membership to access those and it's waaay out of my price range.

In one of my anatomy drawing classes we did a setup like this, put the model on a riser above us and drew him, then we got on the riser and looked down on him and drew. It was a great experiment, wish that class was still around :(

Anyways, if anyone comes across any non-commercial (unlike this one) figure/anatomy refs done from interesting angles (not posemaniacs please - I want some skin :) ), let me know, thanks!

My first thought was truly woof! I am quite overwhelmed by this stunning piece. I find it quite magnificent in quite every way I can think. So much drama in the image all drawn in by the upward perspective to that jaw, the hair and the face, the skin tones, the draughmanship. I could quite readily fall in love over and over again with this piece. My hat off to you, brilliant and quite made my night. Thank you so much for sharing the image.
