something I've been playing around with - I'd like to turn her into a ship's figurehead that comes alive during a storm. Haven't decided if she'll be carved wood, or painted, or both.
This looks good but I think what's throwing me off is the texture not matching up with the lighting you have on the figure. That and the lighting on the hair is more intense than the figure so it doesn't look like it's attached.
yes the texture is just thrown over the greyscale to see how wood would look. If I go with wood vs cracked paint the whole thing will be painted by hand. The hair will have to be solid wood... this is getting complicated.
Hmm, making her look "painted" would be a challenge, since you wouldn't be able to use the realistic skin tones you're used to and it would actually have to be fake-looking. Can you make it look fake without it looking bad
Reminds me of how I learned that many of the beautiful white statues and carvings found in ancient Greece and all surrounding areas with similar history, weren't actually like that back in the day. Apparently they were painted with horrid, bright primary colours mostly and looked rather toy-like...what were they thinking Some things get better with age I suppose I do like the wooden texture, it makes it more unique.
yes it will be a challenge... Figureheads usually seem to start out as painted, and the weather and sea wear down the paint. Sometimes it's cracked and you can see wood through the cracks. And I want her to be coming "alive", so that would imply the glow of skin... so I'm not sure what I'm doing yet!
